In order to sign up for water you will need to visit our office at 6 Cool Street in Waterville. If you would like to fill out an application before visiting our office please click here. A photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, etc.) is required for application. A new application is necessary after each break of service (i.e.: landlord to tenant to landlord) with the exception of seasonal customers.
How do I have my water disconnected?
If you are moving out of your house, please contact our business office at 872-2763 in order to schedule an appointment to have the water shut off and the meter removed during our regular business hours.
Where and how do I pay my bill?
You can pay your water bill at our business office at 6 Cool Street in Waterville. We accept credit cards, checks, and cash. At this time we do not offer online payments. Please enclose your invoice stub with your payment, or if coming to the office, bring it with you.
What should I do if I have dirty water?
If your water appears cloudy or dirty, please run the cold water for a short period of time. In most cases this will fix the problem, but if the dirty water persists, please contact us so we can analyze the situation further.
What is the proper procedure for installing a water line (service) from my house and connecting to the KWD water main?
If you believe a water service does not exist at your new property, you should contact us to confirm that you, in fact, do not have a service. If it is determined that you do not have an existing service on your property, you will need to hire a contractor or the KWD to install a new service. Please keep in mind that only KWD personnel are allowed to tap into our live water mains. A tapping fee will be administered for all taps based on the size of the tap. You will also need to visit our business office at 6 Cool Street to apply for water service in person.
Is there fluoride in the KWD’s drinking water?
Yes, there is. According to Maine statute, fluoride must be added to the water of those districts whose ratepayers vote to have it added to their water. We add fluoride during treatment in the form of hydrofluorosilicic acid, and testing occurs on a daily basis in order to comply with drinking water standards.
Where does the KWD draw water from?
The KWD’s water source is the West Basin of China Lake. The water travels from China Lake to our treatment plant where it is filtered and disinfected. From there it travels by gravity through our transmission line to our main pumping station on Western Avenue in Waterville where it is pumped out to our customers.
Why don’t I have water?
If you do not have water, it is likely that there is a water main break or a new installation is occurring, and the section of main to which your water service is connected is shut off. We do our best to contact our affected customers ahead of time when we install a new main, but sometimes we do miss a customer. In an emergency situation you may not be contacted as our crews are doing their best to restore your water in a timely manner. If you have any concerns about the status of your water, please contact us for further information.
