China Lake Data

The Kennebec Water District operates the China Lake outlet dam for the Town of Vassalboro in order to control the level of the lake. The level of the lake is controlled based on a lake level order from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. Please scroll down for recent lake level data and DEP’s schedule.

The DEP lake level order also states that the flow must be 10 cubic feet per second out of the dam and the flow requirement takes precedence over the lake level. The only exception to this rule is in a drought year where the lake level is more than 2 feet below spillway where the flow can be lowered to 2.3 cubic feet per second.
