The Kennebec Water District is seeking candidates to fill an Office Associate I position.  This position has the responsibility for various customer service tasks. Responsibilities for communicating with customers, updating paperwork and other documents, performing other general office clerk duties, and supporting the Office Associate II when needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak or listen, stand, and walk.  Prolonged periods of sitting and using computer keyboard and mouse. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. General office work environment.

A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is preferred. Knowledge and familiarity with water utility operations a plus.

Department: Finance

Reports To: Finance Manager    

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assisting customers at the window.
  2. Answering the phone and directing calls.
  3. Open and distribute mail.
  4. Processing customer payments.
  5. Accepting and reviewing new applications for water service.
  6. Make phone calls for disconnections and track annual results.
  7. Reviewing daily cash receipt paperwork totals.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Back-up office personnel when needed.
  2. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications Needed for Position:

Experience and Skill Requirements:  The following experience and skills are considered essential:

  • Two years of experience in an office setting, preferably in a public utility organization.
  • Experience in handling payments.
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong team player.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet changing job requirements.

Education Requirements:  The following education requirements are considered essential:
