Fall Flushing Has Begun!

The Kennebec Water District will perform routine maintenance of the water system by opening fire hydrants September 20th through October 26th. This work improves water quality by flushing sediment out of the water lines. Your drinking water may be discolored during this period. If any discoloration persists more than 24 hours please call us at 872-2763.

URGENT: Low Water Pressure

11:13 AM: We have located the leak and have restored pressure to the system. Thank you for your patience. Please stay tuned in case of further updates.



9:20 AM: We aware of an issue that has resulted in low pressure for many of our customers. There is a large leak in the system that we are in the process of trying to locate. Our system has a number of river crossings and cross country mains that can make locating leaks difficult at times.

Spring Hydrant Flushing

Kennebec Water District personnel will be cleaning and flushing mains in the towns of Waterville, Winslow, Fairfield, Benton, and North Vassalboro during both day time and the evening hours beginning May 7th through June 8th, 2018. Operations and Maintenance Utility Technician

The Kennebec Water District is seeking candidates to fill a Utility Technician (1, 2 or 3) position based at 5 South Street in Waterville.

Work hours are 7 am – 3:30 pm. Monday – Friday.

The successful candidate must be able to display an exceptional work ethic, strong mechanical skills set and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Utility Technicians perform varied duties associated with Kennebec Water District construction projects and maintenance of system assets. Workload can vary from light to heavy in physical demands and in varying weather conditions.

Utility Technician Class designations are dependent on a combination of qualifications, experience, longevity, performance, and other factors. Utility Technician 1 is the highest level and Utility Technician 3 is an entry level position. Candidates must have a high school diploma.

Utility Technicians must reside within an acceptable travel distance to distribution headquarters and share after-hours on-call responsibilities. District policy requires a valid, insurable Maine driver’s license with a clean record and any candidate considered for a position must undergo a criminal background check.

This position operates under the terms of the Kennebec Water District collective bargaining agreement. Utility Technicians are required to obtain a CDL-A and Tank Vehicle Endorsement within one year of hire.

Water Treatment Plant Operator – Environmental Focus

The Kennebec Water District is seeking candidates to fill a Water Treatment Plant Operator (Operator) with an environmental focus based at 462 Main Street in Vassalboro.

Normal work hours are 6:30 am – 3:00 pm. Monday – Friday.

Rotating weekend shift hours are 6:30 am – 10:30 am. Saturday – Sunday

The successful candidate must be able to display an exceptional work ethic and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Under general supervision of the Treatment Plant Supervisor, the successful candidate’s primary focus will be on the Kennebec Water District’s State certified laboratory, the China Lake watershed, and operating the District’s water treatment plant (WTP) and associated remote sites in accordance with State and federal laws and regulations. He or she will also perform duties relating to system water quality, water distribution, sampling and analysis, maintenance, and data collection/quality control.

Candidates must have a high school diploma and one year of related experience. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience and two years of post-high school higher education in biology, environmental science or another related field.

Operator must reside within an acceptable travel distance to the WTP and share weekend and after-hours on-call responsibilities. District policy requires a valid, insurable Maine driver’s license with a clean record and any candidate considered for a position must undergo a criminal background check.

This position operates under the terms of the Kennebec Water District collective bargaining agreement. Operators are required to obtain a Class 4 State of Maine Water Treatment Operator License within a negotiated period.

New Rate Schedule Available

The Kennebec Water District (KWD) was recently approved for a 5% across-the-board rate increase by the Maine Public Utilities Commission. The increase will apply to all customer rates and fire protection charges and is intended to generate the additional annual revenue.
